Job Description:

We’re recruiting for an experienced Customs Coordinator to join a well-established freight forwarding business in the North East.

The company handles European imports, exports and cross-trade movements and is looking to strengthen its customs capability as the operation continues to develop.

This role will take ownership of customs activity across the business, working closely with the freight operations team to make sure shipments are cleared correctly and without unnecessary delays.

What you'll be doing

• Completing import and export customs declarations
• Managing customs clearance for UK and European freight movements
• Checking documentation and ensuring information is accurate before submission
• Working with freight operators to obtain missing or additional information
• Liaising with customers where customs documentation or clarification is required
• Managing customs queries and resolving clearance issues
• Maintaining accurate records and documentation
• Keeping up to date with relevant customs procedures and requirements
• Supporting the wider operations team with customs-related advice

What they're looking for You'll need previous hands-on customs experience within freight forwarding, logistics or a similar environment, with a good understanding of import and export clearance procedures.

They need someone who is comfortable taking responsibility for their own workload and who understands the importance of getting customs declarations right first time.

Team fit is important here too. It’s an outgoing, hardworking office where people get on with the job but don't take themselves too seriously. They want someone who will become part of the team rather than simply turning up, doing their declarations and going home.

Salary & benefits

• Salary up to £32,000 depending on experience
• Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm
• 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays
