Infrastructure Design Engineer - Main Contractor - North East

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Design Engineer from a civil engineering consultancy background to transition into a contractor environment. Working as part of the preconstruction team, the position contributes to delivery of technical solutions, value engineering and constructability throughout the tender and Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) phases. The position will retain a strong technical element through site delivery, requiring close integration with the operational team and regular interaction with clients, consultants and other project stakeholders. The successful candidate will need the confidence to provide technical input, respond to design queries and help develop practical, buildable solutions.

This is an office based role near Newcastle, working closely with a professional, friendly team.

Experience Required

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Consultancy background, ideally with experience across infrastructure projects such as highways, roads, bridges and drainage.
• Experience contributing to the design and delivery of civil engineering projects.
• Understanding of constructability, technical solutions and value engineering.
• Confident communicating with clients, consultants and internal project teams.
• Strong technical problem-solving and communication skills.
• Working towards Chartered Engineer status is preferred.
• A genuine interest in developing a career within a contractor environment.
