Search² is exclusively supporting an established organisation operating across the UK construction sector in the appointment of a Health & Safety Advisor.

This is an excellent opportunity for a construction Health & Safety professional who enjoys being out on live sites but wants a position offering greater variety and the opportunity to broaden their technical experience.

You'll work across a varied portfolio of construction projects, combining practical site-based Health & Safety work with involvement during the earlier stages of project delivery.

Crucially, the role also offers the opportunity to develop your experience across CDM, Principal Designer and design risk, while continuing to use your practical construction Health & Safety knowledge.

Why This Opportunity?
This isn't a role where you'll spend every day on the same construction site.

You'll work across different projects and environments, providing practical Health & Safety support throughout the construction lifecycle.

The majority of your role will focus on construction Health & Safety, including site visits, inspections, audits and working directly with contractors and project teams.

You'll also have the opportunity to become more involved across CDM, design risk and Principal Designer activities.

Importantly, you don't need to already be an experienced Principal Designer.

If you understand how construction projects work, can identify risk on live sites and have the confidence to engage with contractors and project teams, there is an opportunity to develop the broader technical elements of your experience.

What You Will Be Doing

• Carrying out Health & Safety audits and inspections across live construction projects
• Reviewing site arrangements, documentation and working practices
• Reviewing RAMS and relevant Health & Safety information
• Identifying areas for improvement and producing clear reports
• Engaging with contractors, clients and wider project teams
• Attending project and progress meetings
• Providing practical construction Health & Safety advice
• Supporting clients in fulfilling their duties throughout project delivery
• Identifying and discussing construction risks during the earlier stages of projects
• Supporting CDM and Principal Designer activities
• Considering how risks can be eliminated or reduced before work reaches site
• Developing your understanding of design risk and how decisions made during the earlier stages of a project can influence construction safety

What You Will Need

We're particularly interested in people who understand how construction actually works.

You'll ideally have:

• Previous Health & Safety experience within construction
• A NEBOSH qualification or equivalent
• A strong understanding of construction processes and site activities
• Experience carrying out inspections, audits or site reviews
• Confidence engaging with contractors, clients and other stakeholders
• An understanding of the CDM Regulations
• A practical and pragmatic approach to Health & Safety
• A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel as part of the role

Previous CDM, Principal Designer or design risk experience would be advantageous, but isn't essential.

The business would also consider candidates from engineering-led or Armed Forces backgrounds where you've developed relevant construction and Health & Safety experience.

Location & Travel

The position is based in the Newcastle area and will involve a combination of office working and visits to construction sites.

This isn't a predominantly home-based position, so candidates should be comfortable regularly working from the office when they aren't visiting projects.

The majority of travel will be within the wider region, although occasional UK travel and overnight stays may be required.

On site days, you'll be able to travel directly from home where appropriate.
Business mileage, rail travel and accommodation for required overnight stays are covered.
