Job Description:

Our client, based in Washington, is seeking an experienced Welder. 

You will join the team as a permanent worker. You will work 38 hours per week: 8:00 am - 3:00 pm, Monday to Friday. The hourly rate is £16.50. 

Job Responsibilities

• Perform welding, inspections, painting and other fabrication duties, as required by business needs. 
• Fabricate and weld steel sections, brackets and associated components using welding processes. 
• Interpret and work from engineering drawings, jigs and templates to produce steel sections to specified dimensions and tolerances. 
• Prepare materials by cutting, bevelling, drilling and fitting sections, plates and stiffeners prior to welding. 
• Set up welds correctly, including selection of appropriate consumables, parameters and welding sequences for the material and thickness. 
• Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and BS EN 1090 requirements for UKCA-marked structural components. 
• Play an active role in arranging and carrying out day to day housekeeping rotas. 
• Maintain dimensional accuracy of fabricated steel sections, including bearing lengths, hole/slot positions and bracket alignments. 
• Carry out self-checking and basic visual inspection of welds and support any further inspection as required by QA. 
• Complete all required job cards, weld identification and traceability records accurately and on time.
• Follow all health, safety and environmental procedures, including safe use of PPE, and housekeeping standards. 
• Contribute to continuous improvement by suggesting changes to methods or layouts that improve safety, quality or efficiency. 
• Loading / unloading trucks with incoming/outgoing goods using a forklift truck and overhead crane. 
• Carry out welding tests with the Welding co-ordinator in accordance with BS EN 1090

Essential Job Skills & Qualifications

• Time-served welder/fabricator with recent  experience in structural steel fabrication 

• Overhead crane certification. 

• Current or recent BS EN ISO 9606-1 welder qualification for carbon steel using MAG/MIG and/or MMA, in relevant plate/section positions.

• Competent in cutting, prepping, assembling and welding steel sections, stiffeners and brackets to specified dimensions, structural components, with knowledge of FPC and documentation. 

• Experience of safe manual handling and  working at heights. 

• Strong awareness of health and safety in a fabrication workshop, including safe use of welding and cutting equipment and PPE. 

• Familiarity with structural bolts, anchors,  and fixings (e.g. anchor bolts, resin anchors, cast-in channels, stainless fixings) and understanding load paths and  manufacturer installation guidance. 

• Ability to support continuous improvement  in jigs, fixtures and fabrication methods to  improve repeatability and efficiency. 

• Awareness of corrosion and durability  requirements when combining steel sections, stainless fixings, and masonry in  external environments

• Flexible to support other parts of the  business as required. 

• Evidence of continuous professional  development, such as refresher coding  tests, additional processes, or higher-level  fabrication/welding qualifications.

Desirable Job Skills & Qualifications  

• Proven ability to read and work from engineering drawings, jigs and templates  to tight tolerances. 

• Forklift Truck Licence
